ΠΑΝΑΓΙΑ Η ΜΕΓΑΛΟΧΑΡΗ
Η ονομασία «Μεγαλόχαρη» αποτελεί σύνθετη λέξη με α΄ συνθετικό το επίθετο «μεγάλος» και β΄ συνθετικό το ουσιαστικό «χάρη» και σημαίνει «αυτή που έχει πολλές χάρες ή πολλά χαρίσματα». Ως Μεγαλόχαρη αναφέρεται από την Ανατολική Ορθόδοξη Εκκλησία η μητέρα του Χριστού, η Παναγία, κυρίως λόγω των χαρισμάτων και των θαυμάτων που αποδίδονται στη μεσιτεία της και έχουν πραγματοποιηθεί έπειτα από τις προσευχές των πιστών προς το πρόσωπό της. Μεγαλόχαρη ονομάζεται επίσης ο ναός που είναι αφιερωμένος στην Παναγία στο νησί της Τήνου, τον οποίο επισκέπτονται χιλιάδες πιστοί κάθε χρόνο για να προσκυνήσουν τη θαυματουργή εικόνα της Παρθένου Μαρίας.

VIRGIN MARY MEGALOCHARI
The name “Megalochari” is a compound word consisting of the adjective megalos (great) as its first component and the noun chari (grace) as its second. It means “she who possesses many graces” or “she who is richly endowed with gifts.” In the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Mother of Christ, the Virgin Mary, is referred to as Megalochari, primarily because of the graces and miracles attributed to her intercession and granted in response to the prayers of the faithful who turn to her. The church dedicated to the Virgin Mary on the island of Tinos is also known as “Panagia Evangelistria” and is commonly associated with the name Megalochari. Thousands of believers visit it every year to venerate the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary.
