ΚΩΣΤΑΣ ΟΥΡΑΝΗΣ
Ο Κώστας Ουράνης (1890–1953) ήταν σημαντικός Έλληνας ποιητής, πεζογράφος και μεταφραστής. Γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και κατά τη διάρκεια της ζωής του ταξίδεψε και έζησε σε πολλές χώρες, εμπλουτίζοντας το έργο του με στοιχεία από διεθνείς λογοτεχνικές τάσεις και πολιτισμούς. Βασικός εκπρόσωπος του συμβολισμού και του νεορομαντισμού, ξεχώρισε για την ευαισθησία του, το λυρικό ύφος και την αισθητική του απόδοση στην ποίηση, ενώ η θεματολογία του περιλαμβάνει τον έρωτα, τη φύση, το ταξίδι, την ανθρώπινη μοναξιά και την έμπνευση.
“Θὰ μπορούσαμε νὰ τὸν ποῦμε ὁ τελευταῖος ρομαντικὸς τῶν Γραμμάτων μας”, γράφει ὁ Μιχαὴλ Περάνθης. “Γλυστρώντας πάνω ἀπ᾿ τὰ κύματα τῆς λύπης, ποὺ ἦταν ὁλόκληρη ψυχική, ἀντιπαρέρχονταν τὴν καθημερινότητα, ξέφυγε τὴν πεζολογία τῶν πρακτικῶν ἡμερῶν καὶ μετατοπίζονταν σὲ μία περιοχὴ καμωμένη ἀπὸ τὸ δικό του κλίμα, ὅπου ἡ νοσταλγία του εὕρισκε τροφὴ καὶ ἡ θλίψη τοῦ διέξοδο”.
Τῆς ἀγάπης
Νά ῾ξερες πῶς λαχτάριζα τὸν ἐρχομό σου, Ἀγάπη
ποὺ ἴσαμε τὰ σήμερα δὲ σ᾿ ἔχω νιώσει ἀκόμα,
μὰ ποὺ ἔνστικτα τὸ εἶναι μου σ᾿ ἀναζητοῦσεν, ὅπως
τὴ γόνιμη ἄξαφνη βροχὴ τὸ στεγνωμένο χῶμα!
Πόσες φορὲς ἀλίμονο! δὲ γιόρτασα, θαρρώντας
πὼς ἐπιτέλους ἔφτασες, Ἐσὺ πού ῾χες ἀργήσει:
Σὰ μυγδαλιά, ποὺ ἡλιόλουστες ἡμέρες τοῦ χειμῶνα
τὴ ξεγελᾶνε, βιάζονταν κι ἐμὲ ἡ ψυχὴ ν᾿ ἀνθίσει.
Μὰ δὲν ἐρχόσουνα ποτὲς καὶ μέρα μὲ τὴ μέρα,
τ᾿ ἄνθια σωριάζονταν στὴ γῆς ἀπὸ τὸν κρύο ἀγέρα
κι εἶναι ἡ ψυχή μου πιὸ γυμνὴ παρὰ προτοῦ ν᾿ ἀνθίσει
καὶ σήμερα, ποὺ ἡ Νιότη μου γέρνει ἀργὰ στὴ δύση,
τοῦ ἐρχομοῦ σου σβήνεται κι ἡ τελευταία ἐλπίδα:
-Φοβᾶμαι πὼς ἐπέρασες, Ἀγάπη καὶ δὲν σ᾿ εἶδα!…

KOSTAS OURANIS
Kostas Ouranis (1890–1953) was an important Greek poet, prose writer, and translator. He was born in Constantinople and throughout his life traveled and lived in various countries, enriching his work with elements from international literary trends and cultures. A key representative of Symbolism and Neo-Romanticism, Ouranis was distinguished for his sensitivity, lyrical style, and aesthetic expression in poetry. His themes include love, nature, travel, human solitude, and inspiration.
As the critic Michalis Perantis wrote: “We could call him the last romantic of our letters. Gliding over the waves of sorrow, which was entirely spiritual, he transcended everyday life, escaping the prose of practical days and moving into a realm of his own creation, where his nostalgia found nourishment and his grief a way out.”

“If you only knew how I longed for your arrival, Love,
which, until today, I have not yet truly felt,
but instinctively my being searched for you, like
the fertile sudden rain on the parched soil!
How many times, alas, I did not celebrate, thinking
that at last you had come, You who had delayed:
Like an almond tree, which the sunny winter days
deceived, my soul rushed to bloom as well.
But you never came day by day,
the flowers piled on the earth from the cold wind,
and my soul is more bare than before it could blossom,
