ΠΕΝΤΗΚΟΣΤΗ
Η Πεντηκοστή, σύμφωνα με την Καινή Διαθήκη, σηματοδοτεί την επιφοίτηση του Αγίου Πνεύματος στους Αποστόλους, πενήντα ημέρες μετά το Πάσχα των Εβραίων. Θεωρείται η «γέννηση της Εκκλησίας» και εορτάζεται κάθε χρόνο από τους Χριστιανούς. Το γεγονός συνέπεσε με την εβραϊκή γιορτή Σαβουώτ, αρχικά αγροτική γιορτή για τις προσφορές της πρώτης σοδειάς. Την ημέρα της Πεντηκοστής, οι Απόστολοι έλαβαν το Άγιο Πνεύμα και μίλησαν σε ξένες γλώσσες, ώστε όλοι να κατανοούν τα θαυμαστά έργα του Θεού. Στην Ιερουσαλήμ βαφτίστηκαν τότε περίπου 3.000 νέοι πιστοί. Η Πεντηκοστή εορτάζεται από τους αποστολικούς χρόνους και συνδέεται με τη βάπτιση των κατηχουμένων, εξ ου και ο τρισάγιος ύμνος: «Όσοι εις Χριστόν εβαπτίσθητε…». Η εορτή διαρκεί εβδομαδιαία, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στο Σάββατο και στη Δευτέρα, ημέρα αφιερωμένη στο Άγιο Πνεύμα. Θεολογικά, η Πεντηκοστή σηματοδοτεί την ολοκλήρωση της Εκκλησίας μέσω της παρουσίας του Αγίου Πνεύματος ενώ μέσω της Πεντηκοστής το Άγιο Πνεύμα ενοποιεί τους ανθρώπους, καθιστώντας την Εκκλησία ζωντανό σώμα Χριστού, αιώνιο και παγκόσμιο.

PENTECOST
Pentecost, according to the New Testament, marks the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, fifty days after the Jewish Passover. It is considered the “birth of the Church” and is celebrated annually by Christians. The event coincided with the Jewish festival of Shavuot, originally an agricultural celebration of the first harvest. On Pentecost, the Apostles received the Holy Spirit and spoke in different languages so that everyone could understand the marvelous works of God. About 3,000 new believers were baptized in Jerusalem that day. Pentecost has been celebrated since apostolic times and is connected with the baptism of catechumens, hence the Trisagion hymn: “As many as have been baptized into Christ…”. The feast lasts a week, with special emphasis on Saturday and on Monday, which is dedicated to the Holy Spirit. Theologically, Pentecost signifies the fulfillment of the Church through the presence of the Holy Spirit. It unites people, making the Church the living body of Christ, eternal and universal.
